About Greenfield Community College:
Greenfield Community College is located in the beautiful and historic Pioneer Valley of western Massachusetts, between the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains and the fertile farmland of the Connecticut River watershed. GCC is a public community college serving approximately 5,000 credit and credit-free students. Known for the caring and supportive attitude of the faculty and staff, and for the broad support it enjoys from the surrounding community, the college is fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. In addition to a strong Liberal Arts focus, the College offers a wide variety of innovative and successful programs including Gender and Women's Studies, Fine Arts, Nursing, Renewable Energy, and Outdoor Leadership, as well as varied learning environments, from traditional classrooms, to distance learning, peer tutoring, one-on-one faculty-student advising, workforce development, and learning communities that cater to specific needs and interests. Close to fifty percent of Greenfield Community College students transfer to four-year colleges, and it is Smith College's largest source of community college transfer students. Much of the College has recently undergone a multi-million dollar renovation that sets the stage for future developments in learning. The college is seeking a candidate who can teach a wide range of history courses that include the traditional general education courses, as well as courses that help students learn about and question the traditional boundaries of the discipline. The candidate has an opportunity to develop history into a degree option, introduce new curriculum, and foster an enthusiastic group of advisees. At Greenfield Community College, History is in the Humanities group with Art, Communications, Dance, English as a Second or Other Language, English, Geography, Music, Philosophy, Theater, and World Languages. The college is actively seeking to diversify the faculty and encourages applications from candidates who would bring valuable perspectives of traditionally underrepresented groups to the campus.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Teaches a variety of history courses that may include World Civilization, Western Civilization, History of the American People, History of African-American Peoples, Introduction to Modern Africa, and Women in American History; provides leadership in new curriculum development; performs academic advising for history and liberal arts students; maintains regular office hours; attends regularly scheduled departmental, grouping and college meetings; serves on college committees; performs other duties as assigned.
- Master's Degree in History, African American Studies, American Studies or related field.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication.
- Ability to work successfully with diverse groups of students, faculty and staff

- Successful teaching experience at the college level.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse abilities and academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, and cultural composition of community college students, faculty and staff.

RANK AND SALARY: Anticipated salary range is $41,621-$68,000. The appointment salary is based on one's education and experience as dictated in the collective bargaining agreement classification compensation structure. Candidates are therefore advised that it is unlikely the offered salary will be at or near the top of the range.
