Working Title: Tenured Associate Professor/Professor of Education Policy
Position Type: Teaching and Research Faculty
Department: Curry School of Education
Posting Date: 12-02-2016
The Department of Education Leadership, Foundations, and Policy in the Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia seeks eminent scholars to fill one or more tenured associate professor or professor positions in education policy and/or administration. Rank is dependent upon qualifications. Scholars with a demonstrated record of publication and sponsored research in education policy are encouraged to apply. For one of these positions we have a preference for a scholar in higher education with demonstrated expertise in how higher education is administered, and its internal policies, as well as higher education policy at the state or federal level. Scholars with interests in K-12 education policy are also encouraged to apply. The successful candidate(s) build research collaborations with scholars in related schools and disciplines at the University such as the Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy and/or the Economics Department in the College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.
This search is part of a multi-year initiative at the University of Virginia focused on educational research with implications for policy. The University seeks to build on the strong foundation and collaboration in education policy that exists across the Curry School, the Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy and the Economics Department. Successful candidates will hold join appointments between these schools as appropriate.
The Curry School offers a range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs including a PhD in Education Policy. The Batten School has an undergraduate degree and a Master's of Public Policy program. The two schools collaborate on a dual degree MPP/PhD in Education Policy and co-host EdPolicyWorks, a vibrant research center that is a home for faculty and Ph.D. students from across the University interested in education policy.
A doctoral degree in a relevant discipline and an established line of funded research are required. Demonstrated ability to lead and collaborate with others on inter-disciplinary, evidence-based research projects is essential. An explicit commitment to diversity and of advancing understanding and outcomes for underrepresented groups is also required. Experience advising and mentoring doctoral students and overseeing doctoral student research is strongly preferred.
