Posting Summary:
The University of Virginia seeks to hire a successful fundraising professional to fill the role of Associate Director of Development. The Associate Director of Development is a front-line fundraiser and is part of an experienced fundraising team that generates philanthropic support for need-based Scholarships and other University priorities.

The University of Virginia is one of a small group of highly selective colleges/universities to support a need blind admissions process and meet 100 percent demonstrated student need. To continue to be a leader in providing talented students the resources they need to excel at the University, no matter their financial background, private philanthropy will continue to play a critical role.

The Associate Director of Development will build and manage a portfolio of current and prospective major-gift level donors ($100K+) and move them towards giving levels that achieve annual and long-range fundraising goals of the University, working in an assigned region or territory. He/she will create personalized strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward individuals within his/her portfolio to raise philanthropic support for need-based scholarships. The Associate Director will collaborate with University leadership, faculty, and volunteers to engage prospects and to develop and implement cultivation and solicitation plans. He/she will also work with other fundraisers in the department and across the University in overall relationship building of alumni, parents and friends and to ensure a coordinated approach for prospects and donors.

The successful candidate will have at least four years of demonstrated success in fundraising, relationship management, higher education, or consultative sales including: managing and implementing development or sales strategies, and successful cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects, donors or clients. He/she will possess a high degree of initiative, an entrepreneurial spirit, and adaptability and will have the skills to shape and be shaped by an evolving fundraising initiative. The successful candidate will possess a high degree of personal integrity and have the ability to work effectively in a complex environment. This position requires the ability to frequently travel domestically with some evening and weekend work.
