The American University of Beirut (AUB), Lebanon, invites applications for the position of Registrar. Reporting to the Provost, the Registrar is the chief officer who directs all administrative and operational functions of the Office of the Registrar. He/she provides leadership to plan, organize, and manage all activities related to academic records and registration, including compilation and maintenance of student academic records, overseeing course registration, and degree verification. The Registrar ensures compliance with academic policies and procedures related to student registration, and he/she advises on policy, operations, and strategies of the Office of the Registrar.
Main duties include, but are not limited to:
Serves as the official custodian of student academic records; ensures the integrity, accuracy, and security of all academic records of current and former students and all student data files; conducts and manages processes related to registration: course offerings/ scheduling, web registration, final exams scheduling; coordinates and produces official enrollment and academic certification from academic records: enrollment certificates, transcripts, verifications of degrees; processes transfer credit for incoming undergraduate students; provides support for determining academic eligibility and academic progress: curriculum guidance, Dean’s Honor List, probations, promotions, graduation; plays a key role in commencement ceremonies, including overseeing the preparation of the Commencement booklet; provides leadership in managing the technical components of registration; coordinates the collection of information for the catalogue from all academic and non-academic units of the university and identifies inconsistencies of anomalies among them; plays a key role in curriculum planning and development; collaborates with internal and external constituencies, such as relevant offices in the central administration, Deans, Faculty committees, faculty members, information technology, students, and external groups to facilitate and improve services to students, including registration, data and records policy management; officially responds to requests for information about students and programs, and serves as the official manager for access to and release of student academic and educational information (e.g. requests for information about individual and groups of students, including all academic issues); prepares the university calendar; administers in-house printing of diplomas; administers the government health insurance plan for Lebanese students (NSSF); manages AUB SIS: maintains student data, administers access rights to student-banner user, and offers data services; counsels and advises students, faculty, and staff on student academic matters, and interprets and enforces student academic-related policies and regulations of the University; serves on various academic committees and ensures that all decisions taken are within the guidelines set forth by the University; administers the budget for the Office of the Registrar and manages its personnel; resolves student disputes as they relate to student academic records and registration; conducts research and analysis and provides reports on registration to appropriate leadership and committees, task forces, and working groups; develops recommendations for implementing enhanced technology applications to support the services offered by the Office of the Registrar; performs other related duties as required.
Candidates should hold a PhD degree or equivalent from an accredited university and have at least ten years of progressively responsible experience in higher education with demonstrated ability to lead and develop staff. The successful candidate must have strong communication, planning, and problem-solving skills, and be technologically proficient in student information systems; knowledge of Banner is highly preferred. He/she must have the ability to work effectively with internal and external constituencies and to handle confidential information, and must demonstrate commitment to excellence in student services as well as to liberal arts education.
