Duties: The Research Specialist D, using clinical and informatics expertise, will design and implement research studies to answer clinical questions using machine learning techniques for the Division of Health Policy health system and payer research portfolio. The Research Specialist D should have clinical knowledge and have experience integrating that knowledge with informatics and machine learning techniques to answer clinical questions. He or she should also have experience with designing and implementing clinical research studies that require management and analysis of large datasets, including proficiency in SQL, and will work directly with biostatisticians and data analysts with data tasks such as: cleaning, validation, statistical program development and review, analytic troubleshooting, reviewing and interpreting complex statistical and informatics models, and visualization. Experience with manuscript and grant preparation is ideal. The Research Specialist D will play a central role in executing studies. Responsibilities include planning, designing, implementing, monitoring, analyzing, and disseminating research.

Qualifications: The minimum of a Master's degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Pharmacology or related field and 3 to 5 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Doctoral degree and/or clinical knowledge is preferred. Candidates should have a strong understanding of health policy research, health services research, machine learning, biostatistics, management of clinical trials and databases, and expertise in manuscript and grant preparation. He or she should also have experience with management and analysis of large datasets, including proficiency in SQL, and will work directly with biostatisticians and data analysts with data tasks such as: cleaning, validation, statistical program development and review, analytic troubleshooting, reviewing and interpreting complex statistical and informatics models, and visualization. Furthermore, a proven record of independent scholarship is strongly preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work independently as well as with collaborators are considered key qualifications.
