The Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia invite applications for a Research Scientist beginning at the start of the academic year, fall of 2017.
The Research Scientist works with faculty to support their empirical research projects and conduct workshops on the latest empirical methods. The incumbent will advise on econometrics and computational statistics methods.
This position works closely with a wide variety of faculty supporting research and data analysis activities pertaining to projects that are expected to result in publications in academic journals. The Research Scientist conducts workshops on current empirical methods and support the librarian to curate research databases and source new ones.
Ideal candidate will have:
PhD completed or near completion in related fields such as information systems, information technology, computer science, engineering, or data science.
2-3 years of professional experience.
Subject matter expertise in econometrics and computational statistics methods.
Ability to synthesize information, provide advice and address needs independently.
Ability to formulate and provide advice on research methodologies.
Ability to collect, analyze and interpret data to make recommendations for future study or application.
Ability to oversee implementation and modification of research design.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, proficient in common econometric software applications such as SAS, R, SQL, Stata programming.
Demonstrate strong oral and written communication.
Ability to conduct and synthesize literature reviews.
Demonstrate ability to multi-task and work with individuals.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Work with senior faculty to accomplish goals.
