About The Unit:

Unit Job Summary: Perform molecular biology and cloning experiments, coordinate projects and help conduct experiments in transgenic zebrafish embryos. Interact with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator. Develop transgenic zebrafish embryos through DNA injections in zebrafish oocytes. Maintain developing zebrafish embryos and evaluate for transgene expression patterns. Use molecular biological techniques, including some or all of the following: DNA isolation, PCR, rtPCR, northern and western blotting, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization. Responsible for the care and upkeep of the lab's zebrafish facility; this will include performing/coordinating feeding, cleaning, maintenance, organization, compliance, and husbandry. Duties related to other potential animal populations may also arise. Additionally, will manage the lab's animal care and use protocols (ACUPs) and their requirements, compliance, and documentation. Provide logistical support for the smooth running of the lab (ordering, organization, stocking, safety). Provide basic miscellaneous administrative support to the principal investigator and to the lab as a whole (communications, mailing/shipping, tasks-as-required).

Unit Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in biology, chemistry, microbiology, biochemistry or in a field relevant to the research being conducted required.

Unit Experience: A minimum one year of relevant research experience preferred.
