Degree and Area of Specialization: Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Graphic Design, English, Journalism, Communications or other related field



Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience: 2-5 years of professional experience in a marketing/communications environment is required. The successful candidate must have excellent graphic design skills, in addition to science writing and editing skills. Mastery of Mac-based desktop publishing, graphics and word processing software (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, MS Office) is required. Experience with Wordpress is a plus. The successful candidate must have proven ability to collaborate with both technical and lay people to create engaging copy and graphics from scientific information. The ideal candidate will possess a high level of organization, flexibility, a collaborative, can-do attitude and the ability to accept constructive feedback; a proven ability to meet deadlines; and a passion for advancing science, technology and engineering. Knowledge of grant-writing processes is a plus. Proven commitment to increasing diversity in science, technology and engineering and the ability to work with diverse groups of people is required.



Position Summary: The UW-Madison College of Engineering is seeking a creative, science-minded individual who has an aesthetic eye and a way with words. Working with diverse teams of faculty and staff, this individual will create dynamic visuals and engaging text that enhance and elevate materials ranging from websites and alumni newsletters to scientific journal covers and large-scale research proposal submissions.
