The English Language Institute at Georgia Gwinnett College is seeking qualified individuals to serve as Part-time ESL instructional staff members for our ELI courses and special programs. This is an hourly paid position, with employment being contingent upon program enrollment. This individual will be responsible for preparation and delivery of lesson plans and routine ELI classroom instruction. The candidate must be able to work with a diverse group of people, communicate effectively, and work under minimal supervision and under deadline pressures. The ideal candidate will be highly adaptable, flexible, self-motivated and proactive. The candidate must be a team player who is knowledgeable about ESL teaching approaches and must be flexible to perform other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Instruct students in English as a Second Language according to the ELI curriculum
  • Evaluate students' progress in attaining goals and objectives
  • Provide learning guidance and feedback to students
  • Develop teaching methods and maintain documentation
  • Ensure safety and security requirements are met in the instructional areas
  • Monitor class attendance and assist with recruitment and retention efforts
  • Employ strong time management and organizational skills
  • Use effective written and oral communication
  • Possess general computer knowledge (Microsoft Word, Excel)
  • Administer pre and post-test to ascertain English proficiency of students as required
  • Other job-related duties as assigned


Commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in ESL or related field with at least 1 year prior ESL teaching experience OR Bachelor's degree in ESL or related field with at least 3 years prior ESL teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and spoken English proficiency.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with linguistically and culturally diverse students and staff colleagues; excellent interpersonal skills with a positive attitude required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or Doctorate (Ph.D.) in ESL or related field with 3 or more years directly related prior ESL teaching experience.
  • TESL/ESL teaching certification.
  • Teaching experience in higher education.

Physical Requirements

Position requires local travel. Ability to lift and carry files and materials. Ability to move from one office to another office on campus. Adequate vision, hearing and manual dexterity to interact with people in person, on the phone and in writing. Job takes place in normal environmental conditions.

Work Hours:
Position may require non-standard work hours (nights and weekends). This is a part-time position up to 19 hours per week.
