Job Description

Our Client a Private Educational Institution has engaged Matching Principles to source for an Accounting Manager -

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Management and Leadership
  • Works with the chief operating officer to develop and maintain multi-year financial forecasts to inform growth and strategic planning
  • Contributes to increasing the financial literacy and business acumen of the organization
  • Creates department goals and performs on-going analysis and process improvements that will ensure the organization's financial health through the region's growth to scale
  • Manages all accounting and finance functions
  • Educates and supports school leaders, directors of school operations, and their teams to prepare annual budgets and manage school-based expenses
  • Participates in Senior Leadership Team meetings

    Finance and Accounting
  • Prepares timely financial statements, including statement of activities, fund balances, and sources/uses of funds
  • Prepares management reports that provide insights into the organization's performance against its financial plans and related financial health
  • Oversees books of account, accounts payable, and payroll
  • Maintains journal entries and reconciles monthly statements, accounts, and payroll
  • Continually monitors and analyzes revenue and expense activities to ensure accurate allocations.
  • Formulates budgets and forecasts, including revenue forecasting, budget development, and financial modeling
  • Oversees banking and investments, including cash management and adherence to bank covenants
  • Oversees financial audit and tax reporting
  • Assists director of operations with federal documentation and compliance
  • Assists in performance management of the day-to-day financial operations of the organization and the schools
  • Works with development team to develop and monitor grant budgets and assist with other grant request activities as necessary
  • Regularly evaluates and updates software systems and efficiencies related to finance and accounting

    Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required, CPA or MBA preferred
  • At least five years of significant work experience with growing organizations (budgets exceeding $5M) in a mid-level or senior financial position
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook required
  • Experience in nonprofit/education industry and knowledge of fund accounting and the laws, rules, procedures, and programs
  • Detail oriented with exceptionally strong follow-up and follow-through skills, with a focus on results
  • Strong organization and planning skills, with an ability to set up systems and processes to streamline accounting and finance functions
  • Comfort explaining complex financial matters in a simple way and an ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of stakeholders
  • Proactive problem solver who demonstrates initiative
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others and build relationships across teams.
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors preferred
  • Professionalism, maturity, and an understanding of how to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Strong work ethic coupled with an enthusiastic and passionate approach to one's work
  • Commitment to the belief that all students can learn and to the mission of educational equity
