Position Summary: The Department of Medicine seeks an energetic, engaged, and hard-working individual who will serve as Department Administrator. Reporting directly to the Department Chair, the Department Administrator is a primary member of the unit's leadership team. The individual is responsible for planning and organizing the department's business affairs across the clinical, education and research missions. This includes leading the strategic and tactical planning, financial planning and budgeting, marketing, business development and philanthropic/fund development activities of the unit. Further it involves managing the day to day operations by managing human resources, financial resources and transactions and assuring compliance with University policies and procedures. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: setting goals and objectives for the department and managing its relationship with the college(s), the HealthTeam, the university, affiliated hospitals and other external entities; directs the department's financial planning and accounting practices; maintains financial management reporting and control systems; monitors departmental expenditures; oversees compliance with policies, procedures and regulations of the university, affiliated organizations and external agencies; assures a high-functioning infrastructure to support the department's clinical, educational and research missions; will be expected to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a wide range of clients; and performs other duties as assigned by the Chair. This position also provides leadership in the absence of the Chair.

Faculty: Minimum Qualifications Support Staff: Minimum Requirements Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Business Administration, Accounting, Management or field related to employing unit; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in financial or accounting practices, developing research projects, funding and grant practices and/or experience in a field related to the area of employment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Typing Requirements (wpm):

Desired Qualifications: Master's degree in business administration (or similar degree) or equivalent senior management experience; minimum of five years of progressively more responsible managerial experience, preferably in an academic medical center or research environment; minimum of five years supervisory responsibility of several staff employees to include clerical/technical, professional and exempt/non-exempt staff; demonstrated experience in financial management including planning, forecasting and budgeting; demonstrated understanding of financial and accounting principles and standards; proven skills in the management of a diverse population of faculty, staff and students and in the application of affirmative action practices, and policy implementation; knowledge of and experience in managing complex information and computer systems; effective leadership and organization skills; proven ability to manage and lead staff in a changing environment; understanding of the evolving health care marketplace; ability to identify opportunities to enhance income from various revenue sources including promoting, scheduling and charging for services or opportunities provided; track record of forming collaborative and effective working relationships with physicians and senior administrative leaders; ability to handle multiple tasks, details, and prioritize work to meet deadlines; demonstrated excellence in communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills and ability to interact with varied constituents in a timely courteous and professional manner; demonstrates a work orientation that includes problem solving, teamwork and adaptability to change, focus on service, and continuous learning for self-improvement.
