Degree and Area of Specialization: Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience: Experience with academic career advising within a higher educational setting preferred. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to build rapport with students and will be knowledgeable in regards to student development theory and working with a diverse college student population. The candidate will have excellent organizational skills, as well as attention to accuracy and detail. Exemplary written and oral communication skills for a variety of audiences are highly desirable. The ability to work independently and as part of a team, while being cognizant of differing work styles is preferred. An appreciation for Liberal Arts education and describing the benefits to students is important.
Position Summary: This position will join the advising team at the College of Letters & Science Academic Advising Services. Letters and Science Academic Advising assists and supports students in exploring their educational goals, learning about academic requirements, navigating the university structure, and progressing toward degree completion. Letters & Science Academic Advising Services provides holistic, comprehensive, and accurate academic advising that will enhance our students' Wisconsin Experience and their Liberal Arts education. L&S Advisors also play a critical role during Summer Orientation and Registration (SOAR), advising nearly 2000 incoming first year students during an 11 week period.
