The Director of the Career Center for the School of Law develops, plans,implements, and evaluates career-related programs and initiatives, including student counseling, student professional development programming, employer recruitment, employer relationship management, communications with students, employers, and others, and outcome assessments. The Director works with employers in both traditional and emerging practice areas and roles to expand opportunities for students both in and outside of South Carolina. The Director manages the Career Center staff; is responsible for budget planning and oversight within the Career Center; ensures that the Center develops and maintains close relationships with current students; supervises the collection and analysis of data tracking student utilization of the Career Center and school employment outcomes; and supervises the creation and effective dissemination of career information to all constituencies, including students, alumni, faculty, employers, and the public. The Director represents the School of Law as a member of NALP and other professional and legal industry organizations and must stay abreast of national, regional, and local trends affecting the work of the Career Center. The Director leads a results oriented Office of Career Center dedicated to achieving institutional goals as set by the Dean of the Law School and the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, in consultation with the Director.
The Director of the Career Center reports to the Associate
Dean for Student Affairs.
Bachelor's Degree and seven years' experience in a career services, job placement, professional development, or student services. or Master's Degree and five years' experience in career services, job placement, professional development, or student services or J.D. and three years' experience in career services, job placement, professional development, or student services.
This position requires a results-oriented individual with a
strong sense of vision, creativity, and initiative who also
demonstrates strong organizational and managerial skills. It
requires the ability to connect effectively with students,
employers, law school faculty and staff, alumni, and the
public. Success in this position will demand a continuing
awareness of and commitment to best practices in career
services. The Director must be able to recognize and
implement new technologies and methods to achieve
institutional goals; to inspire student confidence, teach
thoughtful self-assessment and goal-setting, and foster a
sense of empowerment to achieve; to maintain a high level
of professionalism, energy and commitment; and to manage multiple tasks in an organized and detail-oriented way while remaining personable, supportive, enthusiastic, and committed to delivering the highest quality of student service.
