Primary Function of Organization Unit: Marketing Communications is responsible for all central university marketing and communication initiatives. This unit works with high level university offices to develop effective communications and marketing strategies and thoughtful collateral to support University efforts as well as many of the 12 colleges on campus. As a sub-unit of University Communications, the unit is responsible for working to empower the brand of NC State through superior photography, video, design, web development, social media and interactive media in a for-fee/ charge back environment.

Essential Job Duties: This position is responsible for developing and writing social media content that follows content strategy best practices, communicates key University brand and strategic plan messages and fulfills NC State' communications and marketing strategic goals. The ideal candidate plays a critical role in expanding North Carolina State University's online presence, engaging key audiences while building distribution channels for our content. In line with the university's brand platform and in coordination with larger departmental efforts, this position is responsible for developing and overseeing the execution of strategic social media and digital initiatives. This position is a key part of a strategic web unit that defines and evolves the university's online presence. The position will report to the Director of Web Communications and dotted line report to the partner group's marketing and communications director.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Department Required Skills: * Experience with higher education content a plus and/or B2C experience * Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of social media channels and their audiences to develop targeted messages * Effective interpersonal skills must be able to establish and maintain relationships with external and internal audiences * Headline-writing and caption writing skills * Ability to meet tight deadlines * Must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously * Professional understanding of platforms including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, YouTube and other emerging channels * Strong project management and organizational skills. * Knowledge of Associated Press editorial style

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Graduation from a four-year college or university preferably with a major in Journalism, Communications or English or a directly related field and at least six months of marketing/ communications experience in a professional setting in which social media engagement was a primary method of constituent engagement.
