Job Description: POSITION TITLE: BOOKSTORE SPECIALIST CPBOOK-SPEC01 STATUS: Part time DEPARTMENT: Bookstore DIVISION: Business & Auxiliary Services CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt UNION: Non-union REPORTS TO: Bookstore Manager PLACEMENT: Clerical, grade 6 MINIMUM PAY RATE: $15.83 per hour Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. POSITION SUMMARY Supports Bookstore operations by providing exceptional customer service to the Bookstore customers and personnel. Performs various cash register operations, processes online/phone book orders, receives and processes merchandise from dock to shelf, communicates with vendors. Work hours fluctuate with season; flexible availability is required to meet store needs. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Perform all cash register operations including cash/check/credit card transactions, financial aid/job training grants/scholarships, refunds/exchanges, book buyback, department/desk copy charges, and related. 2. Receive and direct customers, answer phones, handle inquiries, complaints, and other customer service functions. 3. Create store product records in BookLog POS system for new merchandise. Create P.O. and order from vendor(s). Receive merchandise from dock to shelf including POS data entry. Assist with book/product returns to vendor, maintain related records. 4. Process online/phone orders, including packaging and shipping. Maintain related records. 5. Coordinate financial aid/job training Bookstore purchases. Consult with program coordinators regarding procedures and student issues. 6. Coordinate staff assignments including lunch/breaks and coverage of work areas. 7. Training of staff on register processes, store procedures. 8. Process bank paid-in's and pull additional monies from registers. Process void transactions at register and back office. 9. Assist with opening/closing of Bookstore as needed. Assume responsibility of Bookstore Coordinator in his/her absence. 10. Maintain working relationships with vendors and resolve such issues as shortages, discrepancies, defectives, shipping/billing errors and maintain related records. 11. Maintain all work areas within the Bookstore. Effectively merchandise/display books and all merchandise in store. 12. Assist at North Campus site as needed during the year. 13. Perform related duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1. High school diploma or equivalent. 2. Basic math aptitude and strong written/oral communication skills. 3. Operate basic office equipment including PC/cash register. 4. Schedule availability must include morning, afternoons, evenings and extended hours during rush. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 1. Associate's degree. 2. Knowledge of multiple database systems including BookLog, Courseworks, Datatel, MS Office, ecommerce online ordering system. 3. 2 years of supervisory experience. 4. Previous retail experience. 5. Previous cash handling experience. PHYSICAL DEMANDS 1. Normal office physical demands. 2. Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs. or more required. 3. Ability to travel between campus locations. WORKING CONDITIONS 1. Duties are performed indoors in the usual retail office environment. 2. Duties performed in a warehouse setting as well as shipping/receiving dock area.
