The Student and Professional Development Advisor will utilize resources to guide students in career decision and direction. Position will communicate with current students at various campuses regarding priorities and future outlook with regard to securing residency and other preparatory considerations. Position will collaborate with Director on process engineering, efficiency, and department advancement. Position will be responsible for writing articulate and comprehensive Medical Student Performance Evaluation Letters and will guide students/graduates with their questions regarding their credentialing, requirements for graduation, and any other requirement for a third party that will enable them to practice. The Student and Professional Development Advisor will prepare students with the skills, assets and materials they need to acquire a residency position and work in their professional field of physicians and serve students and graduates dating back to the school's inception in 1978.

Location: Coral Gabels, FL

  • Counsel students on career options and strategies. Analyze student schedule and progress to determine options and best case scenarios. Speak with students under unusual circumstance to develop a course of action for post-graduate employment.
  • Develop, expand, and implement components for MSPE and career resources, completed through utilization of existing systems and databases and newly-implemented applications.
  • Composes a requisite number of Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE) letter per Match season so that students may apply for residencies. Uses processes as a springboard for ongoing advisement.
  • Attend university training/management meetings, communicate with Director re: certain regulatory/licensure issues.
  • Answer calls and meet with students regarding residency preparation, MSPE letters and licensure.
  • Compose miscellaneous letters/correspondences to appropriate third parties.
  • Communicate with students and outside organizations regarding sensitive or individualized matters.
  • Communicate with students on all advisement needs, questions, and information by delivering and participating in workshops and presentations at clinical sites and on campus and conduct one-on-one advisement, phone advisement, email communication advisement, in-house advisement and via web interaction.
  • Convenes with Director on student and administrative issues affecting student progress and/or outcomes.
  • Participates in cooperative University initiatives. Participates in occasional web or in person professionally-related conferences.
  • Requires 10% travel to campus on St. Maarten and clinical sites in NY, MI and CA.


Position requires exceptional writing and critical thinking skills. Well-spoken advisor must be very organized with ability to multi-task and complete a large workload, shifting between various administrative tasks. A disciplined, independent working disposition is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and knowledge and/or proficiency with academic systems is preferred, but not required. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily

  • Bachelor required, prior experience in higher education and administrative experience preferred
  • Background in writing/communication required; excellent organization and customer service skills, and verbal and written skills (fluidly writing the English language)
  • Must be a disciplined, independent worker, proficient typing
  • Experience working with international population a plus
  • Knowledge of the National Resident Matching Service, Canadian Resident Matching Service and Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates preferred
