The Department of Medicine at The George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates, an independent non-profit academic clinical practice group affiliated with The George Washington University, is seeking Academic Hospitalists. The positions include teaching and direction of housestaff for patients admitted to the general internal medicine service at The George Washington University Hospital.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities: Minimum Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications: Applicants must be Board certified/eligible in Internal Medicine; be eligible for licensure in the District of Columbia; and have a minimum of one-year experience teaching residents and students.

The hospitalists act as the attending physician of record for 4 of the 5 general medical teams (the 5th team is under the direction of the chief medical residents). The hospitalists also cover the non-teaching service that is staffed with mid-levels. The hospitalists round with these teams daily and discuss the care of their patients. During that period they also contribute greatly to the teaching of medical students and residents. The hospitalists also evaluate every patient on the service and are the ultimate decision maker for the team.

The Hospitalist group provides an on-call physician every day and night for the hospital. The call is one in 5 nights. The hospitalists also cover all weekends in the hospital with a standard of one in three to four weekends on service. The hospitalist on-call is available to the residents at night and any questions about admissions should be discussed with the on-call attending.
