Essential Job Duties: The Post Doc Research Scholar will coordinate a project on the development and implementation of biological control of spider mites in tomatoes and other vegetables using Phytoesiulus persimilis. The project revolves around using modified banker plant systems to promote early season buildup of P. persimilis in tomato fields, and will include quantifying impacts on phytophagous mites (abundance and acaricide resistance), pesticide inputs, and the economics of tomato production. The position will also aid in the development and delivery of educational programs targeting extension personnel and growers. Responsibilities also include preparation of progress reports, publication of journal articles, and oral presentations at stakeholder and scientific meetings.
Department Required Skills: * PhD in Entomology or closely related field. * Experience conducting applied, field-oriented research in the general area of integrated pest management or insect ecology. * Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with diverse audiences, and to work independently as well as in a team environment.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * PhD in entomology, with experience conducting field research in agricultural entomology.
Necessary Licenses and Certifications: * Valid NC driver's license.
