Duties & Responsibilities   

Reports to the Head Tutors for the relevant concentrations (MCB and CPB) and to the Director of Science Education. Works as a member of a team of advisors to support undergraduate education in the Life Sciences concentration cluster. Advises students who are interested in or have declared a concentration within the Life Sciences, providing guidance on course selection, concentration requirements, and other aspects of curricular planning. Teaches undergraduate courses (typically one per year) as determined by field of expertise and the needs of the concentration. Facilitates the process of finding appropriate labs and research mentors for students. Oversees the undergraduate thesis program for the relevant concentrations. Helps coordinate the concentrations’ tutorial program and social programming. Supervises the Program Coordinator and any staff support. Contributes to an ongoing assessment process to make the undergraduate program more effective. Coordinates efforts with the Advising Programs Office in Harvard College.

Basic Qualifications   

Ph.D. degree in a field related to molecular and cellular biology is required as this position holds a concurrent, dependent appointment as Lecturer in Molecular and Cellular Biology in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
At least two years’ experience teaching and mentoring undergraduates and with scientific research.

Additional Qualifications   

Some supervisory experience preferred; strong organizational and interpersonal skills necessary, as well as demonstrated written and oral communication skills; demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education and student life essential; ability to work with diverse constituencies required. Experience advising students highly desirable.
