The Director of Student Disability Services, in partnership with the Program for the Advancement of Learning (PAL), provides leadership for and visibility to the College’s efforts to ensure an accessible learning environment for students with disabilities.  The Director will develop and implement disability related accommodations and services and collaborate with constituencies across campus to ensure access to education and programs offered to the community.  The Director is responsible for academic accommodations for students registered with the Office of Disability Services, note-taking accommodations for Disability Services and PAL students, and all other non-academic accommodations for all eligible students at the College.


Direct Service to Students and Families

  • Works with students with physical, cognitive, psychological, psychiatric, and learning disabilities to determine eligibility for accommodations and the necessity and type of reasonable accommodations.
  • Advises enrolled and prospective students regarding the College’s disability services and the steps for requesting accommodations.
  • Follows up with students to evaluate the appropriateness of the accommodations that were provided.
  • Serves as a point person for students and their family members on questions or concerns regarding Disability Services and/or decisions made regarding accommodations.
  • Works Admissions and New Student events (Open Houses, Accepted Students Day, Orientation) to provide information about Disability Services to incoming students and their families.
  • Responsible for the peer note-taker program that serves students registered with Disability Services and students registered with PAL.

    Collaboration with On and Off Campus Partners

  • Consults with faculty and administration regarding disability law regulations.
  • Coordinates with Public Safety on transportation accommodations.
  • Coordinates with Residence Life & Housing on housing accommodations.
  • Coordinates with Buildings and Grounds on structural, physical, and furniture accommodations.
  • Collaborates with the Counseling Center, Health Services, Dining Services, and other departments to provide reasonable accommodations and services to students with disabilities.
  • Consults and collaborates with students’ off-campus providers to secure documentation and recommendations as necessary.

    Training & Support

  • Facilitates communication between students and faculty on particular academic accommodations needed by students with disabilities.
  • Provides consultation and training for staff, faculty, and student leaders regarding disabilities.
  • Trains students registered with the Office of Disability Services on Assistive Technology at the College.

    Administrative Functions

  • Collaborate with other areas of the College to develop policies and procedures pertaining to students with disabilities.
  • Evaluate and procure assistive technology to meet individual needs.
  • Prepare annual reports related to College disability related trends, resource utilization, unmet needs, and emergent issues.
  • Keeps individual records of all student and family communication, decisions, and actions taken.
  • Creates forms and procedures for systematic documentation, administrative ease and record keeping.
  • Manages the Office of Disability Services budget and prioritizes resource allocations.
  • Maintains the web and portal pages related to Disability Services.
  • Committee Work

    The Director of Disability Services serves as a standing member on the following committees:

    • Student Assistance Team
    • Diversity Committee
    • Academic Services Team
    • Health and Safety Committee

      Additional committee work may be added based on a specific need of the College or because of the interest from the Director of Disability Services.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, Rehabilitation counseling, or a related field.
  • A minimum of three to five years’ experience working in Disability Services in Higher Education.
  • Basic knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA).
  • Working knowledge of assistive technology software and devices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of diagnostic tests and the ability to interpret the results.
  • Familiarity with a variety of types of disability documentation and arranging reasonable accommodations.
  • Capacity to facilitate informational interviews, review professional documentation, and educational reports to gather necessary information for determining appropriate accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA), as well as Massachusetts disability laws and regulations.
  • Thorough knowledge of all broad categories of disabilities (learning, mobility, visual, hearing, medical, psychiatric) and the reasonable accommodations that apply.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and the ability to learn student information systems and administrative systems.

At the College’s discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the College, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
