The SoLVE (Solutions for Learning and Vibrant Education) Center Coordinator manages the SoLVE sessions offered to improve student learning in the School of the Sciences. The duties include teaching in the program, assessing the SoLVE program, coordinating faculty training, and maintaining records.
Department: School of the Sciences: Chemistry
Master’s Degree in a scientific field plus five years of teaching experience using active learning techniques, college level preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Familiarity with POGIL, PLTL and other active learning techniques. Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including PowerPoint, Word and Excel. Proficiency in document and database management. Experience with effective learning assessment practices. Working knowledge of Blackboard or a similar learning management platform Experience working with a diverse student population with varied learning styles. Excellent written and oral communication skills Effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated team-building ability. Excellent organizational, reasoning, and problem-solving skills. Commitment to integrity, excellence, learning, and community. Commitment to professional development. Ability to travel between campuses. Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, keyboarding, and repetitive motions. Close visual acuity. Position requires additional hours for meetings and events, including occasional evenings and weekends. The Coordinator works near science laboratories and may be exposed to chemicals, biologicals, chemical processes, magnetic field, and scientific equipment/ instrumentation.
Facilitate SoLVE sessions in General Chemistry each semester. Work with the course coordinators and faculty for each course to coordinate the process of evaluating and revising problems for each SoLVE session. Plan and provide training for faculty chosen to facilitate the SoLVE sessions. Develop and maintain an active assessment plan for the SoLVE program. Work with the Department Chairs in the SOS to hire faculty leaders, as needed. Provide an assessment report of the SoLVE program each semester to the Dean of the SOS and SOS department chairs. Participate in university events related to recruiting, alumni relations, and orientation (e.g. Open Houses, Stevenson Scholars Days, Homecoming, Mustang Days, etc.). Ensure adherence to institutional policies, procedures, and regulations. Keep records of all problems sets performed in all SoLVE sessions.
