This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on or before 12/31/2017, with the possibility of reappointment and/or permanency. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The purpose of this position is to ensure that students with disabilities receive services and accommodations appropriate for their disabilities, in order to provide equal access to the university’s educational resources. The incumbent is the primary point of contact for a case load that includes students with the full spectrum of disabilities, including visual and motor impairments, hearing loss, cognitive and psychological disabilities. Duties include reviewing disability documentation and assessing the need for and authorizing accommodation. The incumbent will receive lead supervision from an SSP IV and the Director, and will have ample opportunities for consulting with supervisor and other professional staff when complex situations arise that require the attention of more experienced staff.

Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $3,550 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,402 - $4,812 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Experience: The equivalent of one year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level. Equivalent amounts of graduate level job¿related education may be substituted for the required experience.
Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job¿related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year¿for¿year basis.
Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills
- General knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures related to the delivery of services to students with disabilities in higher education.
- Ability to interpret medical and psycho-educational documentation in order to determine eligibility for disability accommodation.
- A Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or other related field.
- Experience working with students, employees, or persons with disabilities.
- One year experience working in the area of disability services in higher education.
- Military veteran status or experience working with military veterans.
- Knowledge of emerging educational and computer technology and applications in the higher education environment sufficient to authorize the use of technology suitable for a variety of disabilities.
- Superior oral and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008, Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended in 1998, FERPA, and other relevant state and federal laws and codes.
