Position Summary: Director of Academic Advising

Advances the mission of North Park University of preparing students for lives of significance and service by creating a culture of advising and mentoring relating to choice of major, lifelong learning, and identification of values. Facilitates opportunities for students to learn how to explore academic opportunities and major selection for students to thrive during the college years and reach degree completion. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Student Engagement, the Director of Academic Advising provides leadership for academic advising across academic disciplines as a collaborative partner with undergraduate faculty.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the process of undergraduate advising across the university
  • Develop and implement faculty advisor education and serve as a resource for all faculty advisors
  • Oversee the development of user-friendly transfer guides and maintain information with Illinois Articulation Agreements
  • Teach students how to develop academic plans and select courses
  • Collaborate with student engagement and student administrative services to streamline advising and registration procedures
  • Design and implement programs for students to discover their gifts and aptitudes
  • Provide leadership for the advisement of undecided students
  • Teach a section of Cornerstone, a first-year seminar course, in the core curriculum
  • Assess effectiveness of advising model
  • Work with Academic Deans to manage faculty advising loads
  • Assist in the coordination of Registration Days and All Access Days
  • Develop and maintain online advising resources for students and faculty advisors
  • Partner with the Curriculum and Instruction Committee and the Core Curriculum Committee to facilitate communication to faculty regarding curricular changes
  • Analyze retention data and disseminate implications to faculty as it relates to academic advising

Essential Qualifications

  • Master’s Required; Doctorate in related fie
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Prior experience advising undergraduate students
  • Prior experience with WebAdvisor, Datatel/Colleague, Degree Audit desirable
  • Familiarity with academic advising standards and associations such as the National Academic Advising Association
  •  A commitment to, and appreciation of, the Christian mission of North Park University
