Augusta University/University of Georgia (AU/UGA) Medical Partnership is recruiting a full time Graduate Medical Education Internist in Athens, GA for our 3-year categorical Internal Medicine Residency Program. The GME Internist serves as part of the core faculty for the IM Residency Program and will spend part of their time in supervision of medical residents in their continuity clinic practice for the residency program. In addition to clinical duties, the GME Internist will work closely with the Program Director and assist in developing and teaching the Internal Medicine curriculum through academic half-day sessions, M & M conferences, Journal club, Morning Report and simulation. Core Faculty duties also include serving as a resident mentor and advisor, and are expected to demonstrate personal scholarship as well as assist with scholarly activities/projects of residents.
Augusta University and University of Georgia have partnered to create a four-year medical education program in Athens, GA, to help alleviate a statewide shortage of physicians that threatens the health of Georgians. The AU/UGA Medical Partnership combines the significant instructional and research resources of UGA, the flagship land grant research university, with the expertise of the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University, Georgia’s public medical school.
We are looking for a dynamic, innovative academic medical educator with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills to expand the medical education programs at AU/UGA Medical Partnership. This position will offer possibilities for developing and enhancing skills, leadership ability, and personal growth. This position will have significant opportunity to build specialized skills and a broad knowledge base as a core faculty member of the Internal Medicine Residency Program. Didactic and curricular opportunities include but are not limited to participating in the core curriculum didactics sessions, journal club and the evidence based medicine curriculum, the patient safety and quality curriculum, and the ethics curriculum. Clinical responsibilities include supervising residents and medical students in the Residents’ Ambulatory Practice. Opportunities for teaching medical students in year 1 and 2 may also be available. The position is a non-tenure track appointment at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor commensurate with experience.
- Participate in the Internal Medicine Residency program as a core faculty member.
- Clinical responsibilities supervising residents and medical students in the Residents’ Ambulatory Practice with some limited call responsibilities.
- Teach in the Internal Medicine Residency Program’s core curriculum and other didactic/simulation sessions.
- Participate in scholarly activities including publishing and disseminating new and original work in peer-reviewed venues and mentoring medical students and residents to publish and disseminate their work in peer-reviewed venues.

- MD or DO degree
- Board Certification in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Medical Specialties
- Experience in medical education, including working knowledge of ACGME and ABIM is preferred
- Previous experience as a faculty member in an internal medicine residency program is preferred.
- Able to obtain an unrestricted medical license in the state of Georgia
- Able to obtain appropriate hospital credentials and privileges
- Able to obtain an unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration license
Academic Rank & Salary to be commensurate with qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
