Overview

The Office of Information Technology is seeking a Manager, Learning Space Support to join its Instructional Support Services (ISS) team. Under the general direction of the Associate Director of ISS, the Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the OIT classroom and event support teams. In this role, the manager supports and implements practices, procedures, and policies for audio-visual support operations in campus learning spaces and event locations. Additionally, the position engineers and programs classroom AV support systems, as well as oversees AV projects of varying scope, size and impact.

Responsibilities

Learning space support and engineering
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the OIT classroom and event support teams
  • Lead a team in standardizing and applying best practices in classroom podium design and programming, as well as other support technologies
  • Proactively identify opportunities to enhance classroom support operations, faculty satisfaction, and overall use of classroom technologies
  • Foster and maintain relationships with campus constituents, system partners and higher-education leaders
  • Collaborate closely with key campus stakeholders including the McGraw Center for Teaching and Learning and the Council on Science and Technology to support faculty technology use

Classroom project management
  • Along with the Associate Director, oversee the classroom AV project portfolio
  • Working with the Associate Director and the Office of Design and Construction, provide guidance and project management methodologies for managing multiple AV projects
  • Supervise project activities and ensure completion on schedule and within budget
  • Set and manage project expectations and gain approval from team members and stakeholders; facilitate delivery of detailed statements of work on project scope, resources, deliverables, goals and milestones
  • Monitor and report on project progress (system integration, communications, vendor interaction, risk management); create project status dashboards and spreadsheets

Classroom and Media Technologies
  • Experience in the design and engineering of integrated instructional technology systems

Knowledge of:
  • analog and digital technologies in the design, installation and maintenance of smart classroom systems; and quality assurance methodologies
  • programming architecture for control systems (e.g., Extron, Crestron)
  • instructional design principles and learning theories, best practices, learning analytics, and current innovations in instruction and learning technology use
  • accessibility laws and principles for producing accessible instructional materials
  • Expertise in software applications that integrate instruction technology (e.g., AV control systems, productivity and multimedia tools, learning management systems)
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, complex/technical content
  • Ability to conduct training and informational sessions
  • Ability to work independently and initiate projects

Project Management
  • Knowledge of general project management principles, theories and concepts; and experience with visualization software
  • Ability to conceptualize, organize and implement complex projects; and resolve conflicting high-priority requirements
  • Skill in writing technical and non-technical project materials: plans, timelines, vendor agreements, status reports
  • Ability to analyze facts, draw conclusions, define problems, and suggest solutions
  • Ability to lead, moderate, and guide groups with clear objectives to build consensus, facilitate work sessions, and negotiate solutions


Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 year's experience providing academic technology support
  • Extensive knowledge of best practices in technology applications and delivery of support services in teaching and learning
  • Extensive knowledge of trends and direction in learning technologies
  • Minimum of 3 years of increasing technical responsibilities (systems administration, integration, support and/or programming, multimedia development), preferably in a higher education environment
  • Strong diplomatic skills and the ability to foster collaboration and cooperation among all constituents within a complex university campus
  • Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining strong working relationships with campus clients and partners, and vendors
  • Effective staff management skills and a service oriented work ethic
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development for self and staff
  • Master's degree in educational technology or related discipline, or comparable years of experience
  • Familiarity with Project Management Professional (PMP) techniques or related experience
  • Knowledge and experience in broadcast technologies and media creation/editing

Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, information systems, educational technology, communications, telecommunications, film and new media or related field preferred.
