Director of Alumni and Development Communications
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Marketing and Creative Services within the division of Institutional Advancement, the incumbent will lead strategic planning and day-to-day communications execution for UMBC’s comprehensive fundraising campaign as well as the Alumni Relations, Major Gifts, Annual Giving, and Donor Relations/Stewardship departments. Specific duties include: champion brand and messaging consistency across all platforms of A&D communications, integrated with institutional branding and communications; lead comprehensive fundraising campaign communications and branding efforts; collaborate with client groups to help develop and execute integrated annual communications plans; provide strategic guidance in optimizing A&D use of constituent engagement management service (iModules); provide strategic guidance in Development use of giving platforms; work with divisional and institutional partners to ensure effective data integration among systems; develop metrics, with reporting plan, for A&D communications initiatives; oversee information intake processes, including e-form development, for alumni and donor information-gathering and fundraising; supervise a Communications Coordinator and a Program Assistant; and perform other duties as assigned.
Requires a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) and five years experience preferably in leadership of a communications team. Must have: excellent leadership skills and a collaborative approach; excellent writing skills and an understanding of brand and style guidelines; experience with and understanding of iModules or a similar online constituent engagement management tool such as Sales Force or Blackbaud; and an understanding of digital marketing, including content management systems, email management, socail media, and web analytics. A background in higher education and/or alumni relations is preferred.
