Duties: The Advising Specialist will schedule all Intensive Program (IP) students and advise them on their schedules. The position will also provide advising for IP and Penn matriculated students who have identified language needs. The advisor monitors attendance and academic probation of IP students and meets with probation students regularly to support them in maintaining their status. The position also provides advising and teaching to students in the University Connections Program and teaches in other ELP programs as needed. This position will supervise one 10-month Language Specialist.
Qualifications: Required: Masters in TESOL or related field. Minimum of 1-3 years of experience teaching English for academic purposes. Experience advising international students. Familiarity with instructional and administrative technologies including databases; ability to work as part of a team; ability to engage positively in challenging discussions with students.
Preferred: Experience scheduling students into classes; knowledge of a foreign language; experience living and working abroad; understanding of the university application process; supervisory experience.
