Position Summary: The Jordan Institute for Families of the School of Social Work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking an individual to serve as a research associate. This person will assist in contributing to a program of rigorous research focused on informing, designing, developing, and evaluating social interventions and social policies that strengthen individuals, families and communities. The successful applicant will work under the supervision of the Dean in the School of Social Work to conduct research focused on military service members and military-connected youth and families. This person will also assist in preparing proposals for funding to state and federal agencies to secure funding for military-focused projects, as well as consult with PhD students in social work with research focused on military service members and military-connected youth and families.
Education Requirements: PhD candidate (ABD) or PhD degree in social work required with coursework and/or advanced study in intervention research, research and statistics, family studies, and the study of risk and resilience in the US Military. Applicants must also possess an M.S.W. degree from a CSWE accredited School of Social Work.
Qualification and Experience: The individual hired for this position will need to have strong technical and interpersonal skills and be able to work independently. We are particularly interested in candidates who have expertise in research design and methodology as well as in statistical methods, such as structural equation modeling, hierarchical linear modeling, propensity score analysis, and other advanced techniques. Experience in survey design and measurement is desired. Willingness to share expertise in these areas with doctoral students and faculty members is a prime expectation. A record of peer-review publications in social work and family-related journals is highly desired, including research publications using samples of military service members and/or military-connected youth and family members.
