Job Description

A Ph.D. in physical oceanography or a related field is required, as well as a strong publication record showing experience with coastal ocean processes and modeling, and a specialty in ensemble forecasting and data assimilation. Strong computer programming skills in Matlab, FORTRAN, and Python in a Linux environment are required for operational and research tasks. The Davidson Laboratory at Stevens Institute of Technology (www.stevens.edu/cms/ ) has several new projects in integrated (coastal|inland) flood modeling, ensemble flood forecasting, and water quality impacts of coastal adaptations, with a focus on the New York, New Jersey and Long Island Sound coastal zones and inland tidal waterways. We are seeking to hire a research engineer to work on any of these topics.

The initial appointment is for one year, conditional upon performance, and compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The researcher will be responsible for working with other scientists and graduate students to accomplish this work and to prepare findings for publication(s) in leading scientific journals. Opportunities to prepare/submit additional proposals and build your own research program will be strongly encouraged.

Stevens Institute is based in Hoboken, New Jersey, minutes by subway or ferry from New York City.
