Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement
Stevens Institute of Technology, a premier, private research university, located across the Hudson River from New York City in Hoboken, NJ, invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement.
The position is primarily responsible for building and strengthening alumni engagement and philanthropy that directly supports University priorities and other initiatives. This will be accomplished by building and supporting a volunteer network, planning and implementing engagement opportunities that foster lifelong mutually enriching connections, and creating an inclusive community among alumni, current and prospective students and the university.
The Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement reports to the Assistant Vice President for Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving. He or she will have regular contact with leadership-level donors, senior administrators, faculty, staff, current students, alumni leadership, and other external constituents.
Working with the AVP and the Alumni Engagement team to strategize and implement programs designed to maximize annual giving (dollars and participation) to Stevens.
Maintain and expand Stevens' nascent student engagement and philanthropy program; develop programming and communications specifically intended to increase engagement of graduates of the last decade.
Manage a portfolio of 150-200 young alumni volunteers to create a robust peer-to-peer network designed to keep alumni connected and engaged within the Stevens community.
Orchestrate class fundraising efforts and increase class participation with a particular emphasis on reunion years; set annual fundraising targets, recruit volunteers, and maintain regular and consistent contact with volunteer leaders.
Effectively collaborate with Alumni and Development staff, alumni volunteers, and other departments at the university (e.g., admissions, athletics, and student life) to help plan and execute programming and communications designed to serve the needs, interests, and aspirations of alumni, current students, and other constituencies.
Support the maintenance of the Alumni and Development web page and the on-line Stevens alumni community site with up-to-date information; help design e-mail invitations and other e-communications; and assist in managing alumni-related social networking sites.
Have the ability to work evenings and weekends and to travel as required.
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
A bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in the development and alumni engagement, preferably in a higher education setting, including a strong documented record of gift solicitation and volunteer management.
Exceptional written and verbal communication, analytic, and organizational skills, as well as display a commitment to succeed in this visible and measurable position.
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and programs.
A demonstrated capacity to motivate others, and the ability to work effectively with other staff members and campus representatives.
Proficiency with development software systems and advanced experience with the Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.
