ASSISTANT TEACHING PROFESSOR & DIRECTOR OF ATHLETIC BANDS
The University of Missouri School of Music seeks a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor and Director of Athletic Bands for the 2017-18 academic year. This is a full time, 12-month, annually renewable position. Responsibilities include directing the 300+ member Marching Mizzou and pep bands, conducting a concert ensemble, teaching marching band techniques, participating in the supervision of graduate students, developing and maintaining close working relationships with the wind and percussion faculty and area school band directors, providing service to the University and the profession, and assisting with special events (Band Day, Homecoming Parade, Champion of Champions Marching Contest, All-Juniors Honor Band), and performing other duties as assigned by the Director of the School of Music.
Required qualifications include a demonstrable passion for teaching and developing leaders, as directly related to directing a large and successful athletic bands program; advanced skills in contemporary marching band techniques, including drill design and music arranging; successful teaching, organizational, and administrative skills; and a commitment to diversity. Doctoral Degree preferred. Master’s Degree required. Successful secondary school band teaching experience required. Successful higher education band conducting and athletic band teaching experience preferred. The successful candidate will be an outstanding conductor and musician, with excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and administrative skills.
