Position Summary

The School of Art at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro is seeking an artist committed to teaching fine arts photography at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates for the position should be familiar with both traditional and digital photographic processes and demonstrate a knowledge of historical, theoretical and critical issues in the visual arts. Candidates must demonstrate an understanding of photography's relationship to contemporary art practice and be capable of teaching within an interdisciplinary MFA program. Experience with the Macintosh Platform and a range of software applications is necessary. Candidates must have a strong commitment to teaching, curriculum development, and studio management. Involvement in service activities, student advising and thesis direction required.

The School of Art is part of the College of Visual & Performing Arts, a community of artists with almost 1500 undergraduate and graduate students. It is the largest visual and performing arts unit in the University of North Carolina system and is recognized for its comprehensive array of graduate programs and the success of its graduates. The School of Art enrolls over 400 majors and offers degrees in Art Education, Art History, New Media and Design, Painting, Printmaking and Drawing, Photography, Sculpture and Ceramics.
Housed in a first-rate facility and located next door to the acclaimed Weatherspoon Art Museum, the School of Art has also opened the Greensboro Project Space gallery and experimental site in a vibrant downtown area that is home to the Elsewhere Museum, the International Civil Rights Museum and numerous other cultural institutions.

Minimum Qualifications

• MFA required
• significant record of peer-reviewed creative activity
• knowledge of historical and ongoing theoretical and critical issues in the visual arts
• ability to teach traditional darkroom practices and digital photography

Preferred Qualifications

Graduate Degree in Photography
3 years of teaching experience preferred
