The Opportunity

The Director, Corporate Communications & Marketing will help shape and manage the corporate brand, corporate communications and stakeholder engagement strategy both internally and externally. He/she will also be responsible for managing communications on sensitive issues and crisis communications.

This role includes developing and executing an integrated communications strategy, and driving the company's media and external presence that reinforce the company's position as a biopharmaceutical company that devotes its passion and perseverance to finding new and better ways to support patients currently underserved by their current pharmaceutical treatments. An important part of the role will be responsibility for the external image and reputation of the company as communicated through media (traditional, digital, social) and branding.

Scope
  • Leads efforts to refresh existing brand and corporate website and drive adoption of updated visual identity; further establishes and maintains corporate narrative, image and brand and communicate it appropriately and effectively through external channels and internally.
  • Owns proactive and reactive communications and marketing strategies and tactics related to our products and business; these may include responses to media inquiries, position statements, key messages, Q&A or press releases.
  • Develops and leads internal communications programs and initiatives including leadership meetings and forums, brand and culture integration throughout the company and supporting local support initiatives at all of the company's locations.
  • Manages marketing and promotion team that supports the company's Business Development efforts globally including licensing of company's products and technologies.
  • Serves as a corporate spokesperson and forges strong relationships with key national and local journalists covering our business to advance understanding of company's vision, goals and achievements.
  • Provides communications counsel and support to Executive Leadership Team and global leadership.
  • Evaluates external visibility opportunities and prepares communications materials and media outreach plans, driving visibility, participation and leadership in trade associations and other relevant forums.
  • Anticipates and manages communications for issues and crisis that could impact the company's reputation among key stakeholders, our employees or business activities.
  • Plays key role in alliance development and stakeholder engagement efforts at national and state level, supporting efforts to increase participation in and engagement with key industry trade associations and other third-party groups.
  • Oversees employee communication: Ensures regular and consistent information flow to and from all levels of the organization, including efforts to engage employees; Drives internal communications related to new business transactions and integration; Owns All-Company Meetings and Town Halls and efforts to demonstrate our behaviors in action.
  • Develops, manages and evaluates internal communications as needed or requested for departments to provide employees and leaders with consistent, timely and in-depth updates on the business including intranet announcements, email announcements, newsletters, blogs, meetings and presentations aimed at educating employees about strategy, business news, and results while supporting the corporate brand.

    Credentials
  • BA/BS in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or Public Relations preferred.
  • 5+ years public relations experience with at least 2 years writing for and counseling senior executives in public sector organizations, preferably pharma/biotech.

  • Ability to understand scientific information and data and to communicate it in simple terms to media and to other lay audiences.
  • Experience in developing and executing marketing and communication plans in the pharma/biotech sector.
  • Strong media relations experience and successful track record as a spokesperson.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute strategically sound, results-driven internal communications activities that drive business goals and objectives.
  • Strong executive presence and outstanding interpersonal skill; ability to successfully influence without authority and effectively work across functions and personalities.
  • Experience at expertly managing sensitive situations, crisis communications and issues impacting reputation.
  • Experience managing communications related to a variety of company transactions, including mergers and acquisitions.
  • Flexible and able to successfully navigate ambiguity and succeed in a rapidly changing, fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with multiple priorities.
  • Visionary, yet pragmatic; a big-picture thinker, who is willing to roll up his/her sleeves to get the job done.
  • Strong business acumen, preferably related to the pharma/biotech business model, regulatory process and industry current events and issues.
  • The ability to forge media relationships on the regional and national levels, as well as across business, trade and tech outlets.
  • High energy, motivated and aggressive about getting results and growing our company every day.
