Position Summary

The Department of Educational Leadership and Cultural Foundations in the School of Education at the University of North Carolina Greensboro is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor in Cultural Foundations. The University is located in Greensboro, a city of 275,000 in a metropolitan area of 1.6 million people. The city has six colleges and universities and is an attractive community with rich historical traditions, a temperate climate, and a full and active cultural program. The University is one of the doctorate-granting institutions in the seventeen campus University of North Carolina system and has more than 19,000 full-time students, including close to 4,000 graduate students.

The Department of Educational Leadership and Cultural Foundations offers Master's, Ed.S., Ed.D., and Ph.D. degrees and several post-masters certificates in the intersecting areas of educational leadership and cultural studies. The Cultural Foundations program offers a Phd and Post-Masters Certificate and faculty teach a 2/2 load with significant doctoral advising. We offer on-campus programming as well as a range of alternative programs and courses, including web-based instruction and distance education. We are committed to the values of equity and social justice, democratic participation, caring, and educational quality in schools and throughout the public realm. With these values in mind, we seek to understand and change the theories, policies, and practices that are enacted in schools, communities, and other educational and cultural contexts. Minimum Qualifications

The department seeks an individual with a strong commitment to teaching, scholarship, research, community engagement, and doctoral advising/mentoring.

The individual must:

1. Be able to speak to departmental concerns and exhibit a commitment to educational equity, human dignity, and democratic values;

2. Have a doctorate in Cultural or Social Foundations, Educational Studies or related field with at least 2-3 years of experience at the Assistant Professor rank;

3. Have taught and advised graduate students; and

4. Have an understanding of the historical, philosophical, sociological dimensions of Cultural Foundations.



Preferred Qualifications

1. The ideal candidate would have experience chairing committees.

2. The ideal candidate would possess scholarly expertise extending cultural foundations and qualitative and/or non-empirical research.
