The Division of Capital Programs, in Facilities & Services (F&S) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is accepting applications for the position of Visiting Architect or Visiting Engineer, Project Planning. Up to three positions will be filled.
The Visiting Architect or Visiting Engineer, Project Planning has primary responsibility for project planning at all levels from project definition through design and assists in the evaluation and establishment of campus standards for project definition, planning, design and methods of project delivery. Responsibilities also include: assisting the Client (Colleges, Departments, etc.) in determining the needs for new projects or renovations; coordinate and determine the scope and feasibility of projects; develop program statements for each project based on client and campus needs; coordinate and determine feasibility or conceptualization of such projects; determine, compile and reconcile project budgets with input from all pertinent parties for such projects; assist in the preparation of the scope of professional services required for each project; participate in the process for the selection of professional services consultants; attend all planning meetings as the campus representative on assigned projects through Design Development; develop periodic status reports for assigned projects; provide architectural design assistance and interpretation to the clients and Project Management; and act as consultant to Project Management for client requested change orders and professional services consultant amendments during design and construction. The Visiting Architect or Visiting Engineer, Project Planning will also be responsible for management of project conceptualization phase services and feasibility studies developed by professional services consultants.
Salary is commensurate with demonstrated ability and experience. The positions are full-time, academic professional appointments. The positions may become non-visiting at a later time.
Applicants for the Visiting Architect, Project Planning positions shall have a bachelor's degree in Architecture (master's degree preferred) or a related field. Current registration as an Architect is required as well as five years of progressively responsible administrative experience in facility planning and management. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) accreditation is strongly suggested, but not required.
Applicants for the Visiting Engineer, Project Planning positions shall have a bachelor's degree in Engineering (master's degree preferred) or a related field. Current registration as a Professional Engineer is required as well as five years of progressively responsible administrative experience in facility planning and management. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) accreditation is strongly suggested, but not required.
Required Knowledge for all applicants: Familiarity with ADA Accessibility Guidelines and Illinois Accessibility code; various building codes; LEED rating system; moderate working skills for AutoCAD; facilities management systems; ability to communicate well; coordinate the work of support staff; make decisions regarding the quality/quantity of space needs of academic units; manage multiple projects concurrently; develop priorities; negotiate solutions; proven track record of successful problem resolutions.
