Degree and Area of Specialization: Minimum of a baccalaureate degree, Advanced degree preferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience: Min of 3 years full-time experience in Cytotechnology, min of 1-year experience in Cytology education.

License or certificate: ASCP (CT) Cytotechnology certification

Position Summary: This position provides management and administrative support to the Cytology Department operations and staff. This includes oversight of Cytology testing, Histopathology testing, HPV testing, and specimen receiving and handling for the Henry Mall facility. The supervisor will ensure that the Cytology Department recruits, hires, and retains the most highly qualified professional, technical, and support staff available. This position will develop effective systems of communication that promote: 1) staff input into the operation and development of the department; 2) provide individuals with continuous constructive feedback for the purpose of improving and enhancing performance; and 3) keep staff and management apprised of relevant information concerning the department, division, and the organization. This supervisor will contribute to the development of the organization by understanding its general goals, the specific goals of the division, and assuring that all departmental practices, policies and activities are aligned with those goals. This supervisor will set the standard of excellence in the Cytology department by maintaining the highest level of professional and technical expertise and promoting that professional development in staff; modeling the highest ethical standard in relationships with staff, customers, and the general public when representing the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH) and by providing leadership through change. The incumbent and all WSLH Cytotechnologists are required to successfully pass the annual CLIA mandated Cytology Proficiency Testing event. This position develops goals and objectives for the Cytotechnology course curriculum, prepares and presents course lectures, and provides microscopic instruction and consultation to students.
