•Excellent oral and written communications skills.
•Experience drafting executive speeches, opinion pieces, remarks for events, and social media content.
•Proven research and writing skills and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
•Experience interviewing and distilling information in an engaging way for a variety of audiences.
•Ability to produce error-free texts, thoroughly fact-checked documents and to work well independently or as a member of a team.
•Ability to maintain the utmost discretion and diplomacy in interacting with high-level individuals and maintain confidences at all times.
•Proficiency with editing and rewriting.
•Bachelor’s degree in a related area.
•Experience in policy and higher education is an asset.
•Experience with executive communications for a president or executive officer at a higher education institution or a state agency.
Responsible for communicating the message of Texas State to external and internal audiences through multiple media.
•Support the AVP for Communications in drafting communications messages and strategies to align presidential communications with Texas State’s mission and strategic goals.
•Research and write formal speeches, as well as reports, presentations, op eds, media statements, collateral materials, and social media messages for the President and other senior university officials.
•Work closely with the AVP for Communications and other communications staff to ensure presidential communications are clear and consistent and reflect her values and vision.
•Work with other colleagues in Communications to develop effective strategies and written material to support the university’s strategic initiatives.
•Write high-quality content for use in various university publications that represent the President’s vision on key issues that affect the university.
