The University of Virginia (UVA) seeks candidates for an open rank, tenured or tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE). Candidates will be expected to engage in externally funded research, to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and to perform service for the institution and professional organizations. Rank, tenure-status, and compensation are contingent upon experience.
Candidates must have a PhD or Sc.D. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or a closely related discipline by the time of appointment and a record of research excellence, as appropriate for the candidate's rank, and a commitment to teaching excellence. Appointment with tenure requires documented excellence in research and teaching, and an emerging national reputation. Consideration will also be given to candidates with strong potential towards new high-impact emerging research areas closely related to MAE core disciplines and to cross-cutting areas within UVA Engineering.
The candidate will complement already existing research strengths in MAE, which includes advanced manufacturing, aerospace propulsion systems (low-speed and high-speed flows), bio-inspired propulsion systems, cyber-physical systems, energy capture and storage, human biomechanics, multi-scale heat transfer, and rotor dynamic systems (including fluid film and active magnetic bearings.
