Associate Dean of Libraries
Duties and Responsibilities: Loyola University Chicago (Loyola) seeks nominations and applications to identify innovative, flexible, and forward-thinking candidates for the position of Associate Dean of Libraries. This position will provide leadership within the library, work collaboratively across campus, and engage with the local community and national and international partners to develop a range of user-centered services in support of students, faculty, and staff.
Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, the incumbent will work in collaboration with the Libraries' other associate dean to provide leadership for and direction to library departments, committees, and groups to effect a user-focused agenda in support of teaching, learning, and research. As a member of the libraries leadership team, the associate dean will work to ensure organizational efficiency and effectiveness; share responsibility for policy formulation, resource allocation, and organizational development; contribute to shaping strategic initiatives; and play a key role in establishing priorities, assessing outcomes, and accomplishing the vision for the Libraries' future, in alignment with the University's strategic plan. In concert with Loyola's Jesuit values, the associate dean will consistently promote teamwork, respect, diversity, and inclusiveness.
Minimum Qualifications: Required qualifications - Master's degree or above from an ALA-accredited library and information science program or in a relevant discipline or professional area - Demonstrated successful, progressively responsible professional experience in an academic library or research environment, with evidence of effectively working both solo and as part of a team and setting priorities - A minimum of ten years at the level of middle manager or above, with significant experience supervising staff, delegating responsibility, and mentoring - Strong leadership skills, including a commitment to equity, shared responsibility, and accountability - Solid understanding of emerging trends in higher education and academic libraries - Clearly articulated commitment to the library as a holistic, user-focused organization, unifying programs, collections, and space as essential components of service - Robust interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to serve as a spokesperson, representative, and advocate for the Libraries - Experience with strategic planning - Demonstrated willingness and ability to lead and participate in organizational change, innovation, and healthy risk taking - Consistent record of professional contributions in the areas of scholarship and service - Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equality, and inclusiveness - Resonance with the Jesuit, Catholic dimension of the institution
