The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine, The Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and Children's Hospital Colorado invites applications for the position of Child and Adolescent Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (FPMHNP). The Section of Pediatric Behavioral Health is a vital and growing research and teaching section in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado Denver. This section has recently completed an ambitious strategic plan which includes recruitment of more than 10 faculty positions over the course of the next year. Based at the UCDenver Anschutz Medical Campus, the Section of Pediatric Psychiatry benefits from affiliation with world class interdisciplinary professional education, research programs and clinical services.

Job Responsibilities:

The Child and Adolescent PMHNP must demonstrate clinical experience and excellence with children and adolescents and the ability to manage different levels of acuity. The position is predominately a weekend position (Sat/ Sun 12 hour days, with the option of extending to 32 hours on Monday including a ½ day OP clinic).

The position is primarily focused on rounding and writing notes on the inpatient psychiatric unit for adolescents and children, and may include providing a group in the milieu program. The position may include seeing patients on the medical floors in consultation and liaison service and in the Emergency Department.

Ability to apply and implement evidence based approaches to care including using evidence based guidelines for prescriptions and monitoring medications in the pediatric population. Able to perform initial diagnostic interview, develop and follow through with treatment plan, and maintain appropriate documentation through the electronic medical record. Expected to precept students and history of working with milieu staff is desired. Candidate will be a member of a multidisciplinary setting consisting of physicians, Social workers and LPC's, psychologists and trainees. Scholarly activities are encouraged and supported. On-call coverage for PMHI is part of the position.


Required Qualifications:

  • Applicants must possess a Colorado RN license, Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
  • Must obtain Medical staff privileges within the University Hospital and Children's Hospital Colorado.
  • Must have prior at least 1 year of experience in a Child Psychiatric setting.
  • Prescriptive authority is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Clinical experience as an APRN in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is strongly valued, including higher levels of care (inpatient and partial hospitalization).
  • Leadership and teaching experience strongly valued.
