Cluster Hiring in Sustainable Manufacturing
The University of Kentucky's College of Engineering is embarking on a major cluster hiring initiative in emerging fields of sustainable manufacturing. Over the next 3-5 years, we will hire multiple tenure-track faculty at all ranks in numerous areas of sustainable manufacturing. This initiative will complement our current expertise, develop a critical mass in sustainable manufacturing, and foster cross-disciplinary work across the college and the university. Preferred areas of expertise include the following, in order of priority:
1. Sustainable Manufacturing Processes
2. Sustainable Product Design, including Design for Product Disassembly/Remanufacturing
3. Energy-efficient, Extractive Metallurgy for Sustainable/Clean Manufacturing
4. Scalable and Reconfigurable Manufacturing Systems for Sustainable Production
5. Sensor-based Smart Manufacturing with Monitoring and Control of Operations
6. Composites Manufacturing Processes, including Reuse and Recycle Technologies
7. Biomedical Applications in Sustainable Manufacturing, including Implants and Tissues
8. Lightweight Materials for Resource Efficiency in Sustainable Manufacturing
We anticipate hiring 2-3 faculty in the first round of applications in 2017, with a primary appointment in any department within the College of Engineering (http://www.engr.uky.edu). The successful candidate may also hold secondary appointments in other departments depending on his/her expertise areas, and will work as a core member of the Institute for Sustainable Manufacturing (ISM). ISM is an internationally-recognized interdisciplinary research center with significant infrastructure and participating faculty from multiple engineering departments (http://www.engr.uky.edu/ism).
We encourage applications from scholars committed to excellence and seeking to help redefine our research programs in sustainable manufacturing for the next generation. For senior positions, the candidate must demonstrate a record of success in funded research, publications, industry interactions, team building, and be strongly committed to both undergraduate and graduate teaching, including courses for our online master's program in Manufacturing Systems Engineering (https://www.engr.uky.edu/mfs). We are particularly interested in individuals whose research forges a close relationship between science-based sustainable manufacturing and growing industrial needs.
Applications should include:
1) a cover letter,
2) full curriculum vitae,
3) description of proposed research and teaching philosophy (upload under Specific Request 1)
Also provide the names and contact information for five references when prompted in the application. This information may be utilized to solicit recommendation letters from your references within the employment system.
