The Program in Science, Technology, and Society (STS) seeks an experienced professional with a strong back ground in student services and finance to perform a variety of managerial duties related to budgeting, building alumni relationships, strategic planning, policy development, networking, and managing and mentoring staff. The incumbent in this position will work under general supervision and will be physically in a private office location. This position plays a key role in maintaining the integrity, competency, and professionalism that one should expect at an institute of higher education. STS continues to be a growing Interdisciplinary Program within the School of Humanities and Science. This is a full-time permanent position. Listed below are the specific day-to-day responsibilities for this position:

  • Work with Faculty Director and STS Executive Council in setting strategic goals, making Program policy decisions and identifying funding opportunities
  • Hire, mentor and oversee 2 Program staff.
  • Oversee Program budget and manage annual budgeting process, in consultation with Faculty Director
  • Oversee Program finances, including monthly expense reports and expenditure approvals, in consultation with Faculty Director; Supervise program assistant with P-card and IOU reimbursements
  • Manage vendor relationships
  • Write and administer programmatic grants from both University and external sources
  • Administer the hiring of TAs and RAs
  • Network with faculty and staff at Stanford and at peer institutions to identify best practices on administrative matters; Create positive working relationships with individuals connected to the Program, the greater Stanford community and external constituents
  • Manage Alumni Relationships with the Student Services Officer
  • Oversee Program communications and website and collaborate / coordinate with H&S IT and Central Web Services on maintaining high quality of website; Supervise Program Assistant in maintaining STS calendar, distributing announcements and making website updates
  • Manage special projects such as collaborations between STS and other academic units or research centers
  • Lead the planning and operations for functions or programs that have significant business, regulatory and/or technical challenges requiring subject matter expertise.
  • Evaluate programs, policies and procedures. Identify issues, and develop alternative solutions which may include changes to programs, policies and procedures.
  • Review and analyze trends to advise and develop recommendations to achieve or modify the goals of the program or function.
  • Represent the program or function within the department, unit or school. Represents the program or function at the university level and/or to external constituencies.
  • Manage and contribute e to the development of outreach strategy that may include relationship development, communications and compliance.
  • May development and/or oversee budgets; manage finances including monitoring, analyzing, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Assess training needs and may develop associated training.
  • May direct and/or supervise staff. * - Other duties may also be assigned MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education & Experience:

    Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, manage shifting priorities, and handle numerous time-sensitive projects with multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to accomplish goals working through formal and informal channels, with diplomacy and tactfulness.

  • Demonstrated solid planning and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong relevant subject matter knowledge.
  • Ability to direct the work of others, for jobs requiring supervision. Certifications and Licenses: None
  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
  • Occasionally use a telephone.
  • Rarely lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-20 pounds.
