Job Description
Air Traffic Controls Specialist

Be an Air Traffic Control Specialist in the Oregon Air National Guard

Job Summary

As an Air Traffic Control Specialist in the Oregon Air National Guard, you will control and regulate en route and terminal air traffic; initiate and issue ATC clearances, instructions, and advisories to ensure the safe, orderly, and expeditious flow of air traffic operating under instrument and visual flight rules; and plan, organize, direct, inspect, and evaluate ATC activities. To qualify, you'll need to acquire knowledge of ATC principles and procedures; flight characteristics of aircraft; International Civil Aviation Organization and United States federal and military air directives; use of aeronautical charts, maps, and publications; interpretation, use, and limitations of ATC radar; use of ATC communications systems and navigational aids; and fundamentals of meteorology. United States Air Force certification as an ATC specialist satisfies these requirements.

Serving part-time in the Air Guard, you'll receive a regular monthly paycheck, along with low-cost life insurance, a military retirement plan, and eligibility for VA home loans. You'll also get money for college that is now transferable to your dependents through the Montgomery G.I. Bill. With more than 140 Air Guard bases in the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, you may be able to serve where you live, without interrupting your civilian career. And as an Air Guard member, you'll have access to Base Exchange and Commissary shopping as well as free, space available air travel.
