Assistant / Associate Professor – Journalism
The University of Mary Hardin Baylor’s College of Humanities and Sciences seeks a Journalism Professor for its Department of Communication and Media Studies beginning in August of 2017. The Communication and Media Studies Department in the College of Humanities and Sciences offers undergraduate degree programs in Speech Communication, Mass Communication and Film Studies.
UMHB is conveniently located in Belton, an historic town of 19,000 in the heart of central Texas. Excellent schools, abundant cultural and recreational opportunities, and a high quality of life are hallmarks of the local community.
Faculty Responsibilities: Activities required of all faculty include exemplary teaching, curriculum development and student advising; professional attainment; and service to department, college, university, and the community. While primarily a teaching institution, UMHB recognizes and rewards research, publication, and other forms of scholarly attainment.
Specific Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate courses in Communication (especially Mass Communication), Journalism, and related subjects. Full-time faculty members typically teach 12-14 hours per semester with three course preparations. In addition, this position will administer The Bells, the student newspaper of UMHB, in both print and online editions, which is factored into faculty load. Ability to teach photojournalism and broadcast journalism is a plus.
Qualifications: Doctoral degree in Communication or related field preferred. Master’s degrees in the teaching field will be considered. Tenure track requires terminal degree in hand. Experience with student media (both print and video) is a plus. Excellent teaching and communication skills, a dedication to professional attainment, and commitment to quality improvement are essential. Must be active, committed Christian.
