I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The George Washington University's Milken Institute School of Public Health (GWSPH) is committed to excellence in scholarship to advance the health of the populations of our local, national, and global communities. GWSPH's Department of Information Technology (IT) provides behind the scenes to support to the entire school.

GWSPH IT is seeking a Systems Engineer to manage the varies systems utilized within the school. This position will vital in maintaining the school's current systems while also finding ways to improve security and functionality. This position will report directly to the Director, GWSPH IT.

Responsibilities include:

• Manages and oversees all systems, applications, security and network configurations in accordance with established procedures.
• Provide Server and Systems Administrators with leadership, guidance, training, policies, and procedures; manage all aspects of network/information security.
• Develop and initiates new procedures, practices and system enhancements to improve service to administration and departments. Monitors system performance and identifies system problems and directs the implementation of corrective action.
• Define security requirements and controls to effectively protect GWSPH's confidential and regulated data. Plans, document and implements systems and applications are developed, deployed and managed in accordance with GW policies and any regulatory requirements specific to data sources and classifications.
• Aid in development of business continuity and disaster recovery plans, maintain current knowledge of plan executables, and respond to crises in accordance with business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
• Represents the school at various committees and meetings both internally and externally.
• Provide advanced troubleshooting assistance to the tech support staff and help with troubleshooting during peak times and tech support time off

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant professional experience. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

• Excellent working knowledge and understanding of enterprise hypervisors (VMware vSphere, and Hyper-V)
• Excellent understanding of Dell/Cisco firewalls and switches
• Excellent working knowledge and understanding of IP networking protocols such as DNS, DHCP, & TCP/IP
• Excellent communication skills
• Good working knowledge and understanding of business security practices and procedures; knowledge of current security tools available
• Good understanding of networking technology including switching (LAN, WLAN) and IP routing
• Knowledge of complex computer systems and knowledge of security measures at a large university, hospital or research organization is desirable
• Project Management experience
• Experience with hardware/software security implementations
