Primary Function of Organization Unit: The Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering supports the land-grant mission of NC State University. It provides engineering leadership in the development and dissemination of knowledge related to the efficient utilization of biological and agricultural systems and to the preservation and management of natural resources.

Essential Job Duties: The Biological and Agricultural Engineering Department at North Carolina State University invites applications for an academic 9-month tenure-track faculty position, at the Assistant Professor rank, in precision agriculture engineering. The position will be 55% Research, 25% Extension and 20% Academic. The position will create a program that will encompass research and extension activities in precision agriculture technologies and will complement precision agriculture programs in related departments in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the College of Engineering. The successful applicant will participate in a dynamic and comprehensive instructional program in Biological and Agricultural Engineering. Potential courses include analytical methods in engineering design and advanced precision agriculture technology. The position will assist with sensor development, control systems, and data management algorithms to help growers and researchers better control, manage and maximize the value of the data collected. Parallel advances in sensor technology, unmanned aerial vehicles, and expansion of precision agriculture practices provides an opportunity to develop new applications in a diverse agricultural industry. Integration of these practically applied technologies with existing ground and satellite based sensor systems to determine the most appropriate method of obtaining actionable information in the timeliest manner will add enormous value through increased production, optimized inputs, and controlled environment impacts. Applicants should demonstrate expertise in topics such as agricultural sensor technology, analytical algorithms, farm management information systems, and field computers and computer controlled delivery systems. The successful candidate should interface with research and extension faculty in the Departments of Crop and Soil Science, Horticultural Science, Animal Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and/or Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Applicants should demonstrate effective teaching capability to address the department's emphasis in agricultural systems and engineering. Minimum Education/Experience: * PhD in Biological and Agricultural Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline. * Able to offer innovative leadership, and have a proven ability to work with other professionals in interdisciplinary research, and share a commitment to excellence and innovation in graduate and undergraduate education.

Department Required Skills: * Expected to demonstrate the potential to build a strong research and extension program. * Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Registration as or qualification for licensure as a professional engineer.

Necessary Licenses and Certifications: * A valid drivers license is required for travel. NC drivers license required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
