Primary Function of Organization Unit: The National Science Foundation Center for Integrated Pest Management (NSFCIPM) was established in 1991 to serve a lead role in technology development, program implementation, training, and public awareness for IPM at the state, regional, and national level. NSFCIPM fosters the development and implementation of pest management programs. NSFCIPM is an Industry / University Cooperative Research Center, which works to support and further Integrated Pest Management through the evaluation of emerging technologies, information management and dissemination, environmental stewardship, estimation of economic consequences, resistance management tools and systems, and integration of disciplinary expertise. The Center manages grants programs for the USDA, develops regional and national priorities through workshops and stakeholder meetings, and develops and maintains large databases and database applications for USDA, EPA, and Ministries of Agriculture in Europe, Africa and the Caribbean.

Essential Job Duties: The successful applicant will carry out work supporting cooperative activities of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the NSF Center for Integrated Pest Management. This work will entail the collection development, evaluation, analysis and communication of biological information. The incumbent will mainly be focused on authoring Export Pest Risk Analyses that will serve to support export trade from the US to foreign countries. Additional responsibilities may include: assist in writing Organismal, Commodity and/or Pathway-based risk documents that support the pest exclusion mission of the USDA's Plant Protection and Quarantine division and/or help to collect and consolidate information about new pests of concern that may impact US agriculture. The applicants' main responsibility will be detailed pest risk analyses, consistent with USDA and international (IPPC, WTO) guidelines, disciplines and obligations. Applicant will collect and/or develop data, evaluate the quality of data, draw inferences from data, and use data as the basis for drafting risk analyses. He/she will also perform other duties as assigned. Individuals will be required to work in a team environment but will have primary responsibility for assigned projects.

Minimum Education/Experience: Position requires an M.S. degree in entomology, plant pathology/nematology, or other related field with additional experience with data management, pest surveys, crop production, statistical software, or field work.

Department Required Skills: * Must have computer word processing, spreadsheet, mapping and other computer- related skills. * Must have superior analysis and writing skills. * Ability to perform extensive literature reviews to acquire the most up-to-date information on pests with the ability to develop, evaluate and draw inferences from the data. * Ability to conceptualize and complete analyses that clearly and completely address prescribed objectives. * Ability to develop high quality written analyses that require minimal editing. * Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team to meet agreed upon deadlines.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Prefer PhD in entomology, plant pathology/nematology or other related field and an additional four or more years experience in entomology or plant pathology/nematology.
