Position Summary: The Director of Special Events and Partnerships at UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center will develop and implement a strategic, comprehensive events program designed to raise $1M per year in unrestricted support to benefit the cancer center's research and clinical programs. He/she will be responsible for working with individuals, corporations and foundations to solicit gifts and all major event sponsorships. The Director of Special Events and Partnerships will also plan and manage UNC Lineberger's signature events, community events and board meetings, and will oversee the Assistant Director of Development position. He/she will also be responsible for helping create a pipeline of major gift donors for UNC Lineberger through management of these special events. The position is a key external-facing position with the cancer center and serves as a senior member of the Development and Communications staff. The position reports directly to the Senior Executive Director of Development and Communications at UNC Lineberger.

Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree is required, advanced degree preferred.

Qualification and Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 3 to 5 years of comprehensive event planning, fundraising and volunteer engagement experience and a record of demonstrated success in personally soliciting and closing gifts/sponsorships. He/she must have strong verbal and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills and sound judgement; attention to detail and accuracy; creativity and problem solving skills. Preferred candidates will have excellent contract negotiation skills, knowledge of catering, banquet and event planning best practices and the ability to independently manage multiple tasks, projects and deadlines. Familiarity with The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is a plus. Evening and weekend work and statewide travel will be a required part of the position.
