Posting Summary:
The Department of Religious Studies at the University of Virginia invites applicants for a one-year Postdoctoral Fellowship in Religious Studies, with a specialization in Islamic Studies. The anticipated Fellowship period is July 25, 2017 through May 24, 2018.

We seek a colleague whose primary area of expertise and research covers medieval Islamic civilization, broadly defined, with a specialization in one or more of the following: legal thought (fiqh); dialectical theology and/or philosophy (kalam/falsafa); Qur'an and Qur'anic exegesis (tafsir); and Islamic history (ta'rikh). It is expected that candidates will be proficient in Classical Arabic and other relevant research languages. Geographical specialization is open.

The fellow will be responsible for conducting their own research and for teaching three courses over the 2017-2018 academic year.

The successful candidate must possess a strong commitment to teaching excellence and will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels; and must have a Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment.
