About The Unit: As part of the Graduate Enrollment Initiatives team, the Assistant Director is responsible for planning and executing outreach and recruitment efforts, particularly with respect to prospective graduate students from underrepresented backgrounds. Engage in direct, hands-on recruitment of students to more than 100 master's, professional, and doctoral programs. Plan and coordinate recruitment efforts across academic units. Establish and maintain relationships with faculty, staff, and others involved in the recruitment and admissions process. Plan and implement public presentations, recruitment travel, and other activities. Track and analyze program and outcomes data across multiple admissions cycles for all pipeline and recruitment programs.

Unit Job Summary: The Assistant Director will work in close coordination with the office of the Vice Provost for Academic Leadership, Advancement, and Diversity, as well as various other offices, including deans of students and admissions offices in the University's 12 graduate schools and divisions, faculty, students, the Center for Identity + Inclusion, and other stakeholders. The Assistant Director is responsible for efforts to attract and enroll talented prospective students from underrepresented groups to the University of Chicago's graduate programs. This position requires a creative and strategic thinker to improve and expand current initiatives to increase the percentage of students from underrepresented backgrounds who apply to and enroll in graduate degree programs at the University. As a member of the Graduate Enrollment Initiatives team and the University-wide Graduate Outreach team, this individual will also take part in all general recruitment and yield activities. The Assistant Director will serve as the University's liaison to a number of recruitment consortia, as well as develop and maintain relationships with faculty and staff at other institutions and pipeline programs. Recruitment travel, both local and national, will be a substantial component of the position, along with individualized follow-up with prospective students throughout the recruitment, admissions, and yield process. The Assistant Director will also develop and promote resources and information for faculty, administrators, and current students to increase awareness of best practices for recruiting and enrolling underrepresented students. He or she will also collaborate with a variety of University staff, faculty, and students on evaluating these initiatives in conjunction with programs and services oriented towards student retention and completion.

Unit Education: Advanced degree required.

Unit Experience: A minimum of one years of relevant experience required. A minimum of two years of relevant experience preferred. Experience recruiting diverse populations preferred.

Unit Job Function Competencies: Familiarity with recruitment and admissions in a highly selective environment; familiarity with graduate education in a research-intensive university setting. Ability to learn and be responsive to the needs of the University of Chicago community. Ability to communicate effectively and partner with faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds. Ability to offer evidence-based models and strategies for diversity recruitment. Ability to partner with academic and administrative units to create and track recruitment efforts and outcomes, including detailed data management, analysis, and visualizations. Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in higher education. Ability to work independently on multiple projects and manage details. Willingness to travel up to 25% and work some evenings and weekends required. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentations and careful editing, required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite required. Familiarity with CRM/database tools preferred. Ability to stand and sit for extended periods of time; ability to lift/carry at least 25 lbs. A valid driver's license is required.
